GERD Surgery

Medicine and Health

Gastroesophageal redux disease (GERD), is a condition that causes chronic acid redux or heartburn. Typically this is due to a malfunction of the loweresophageal sphincter (LES). When the LES functionsproperly, it preventsstomach contents from overdowing into the lower esophagus.

However, when it does not function properly, stomachacid will backwashup into the esophagus and cause heartburn.

Our team of Nashville generalsurgeons are practicedat several surgicalprocedures that will restore  functionto the LES and providerelief for GERD symptoms.
